Are we really saved by faith alone?
In short, we are saved through faith AND good actions.
Ayon sa Matthew 7:21-27:21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."
There are no shortcuts in being a Christian.

Ephesians 2:8-10For it is by grace you have been saved, through FAITH—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—9 NOT BY WORKS, so that no one can BOAST. 10For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus TO DO GOOD WORKS, which God prepared in advance for us to do.(NIV..with emphasis in bold added)
Do you believe that God never lie? If you do, then believe what He said in the above verses....no buts....ONLY BELIEVE. He said it and the Word of God is the TRUTH because according to the gospel of John 1, the Word of God is Jesus Christ Himself....the Word made flesh...
The good works that we have to do is the RESULT and the EVIDENCE of our FAITH which brings salvation...NOT THE MEANS. REAL FAITH = OBEDIENCE. By faith, we KNOW that what we are hoping for will come to pass and we SEE by the eyes of our faith the things we do not see as yet in the natural.
Hebrews 11:1Now faith is the SUBSTANCE of things HOPED for, the EVIDENCE of things UNSEEN.
Romans 8:9That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."
Where does good works come in this equation?
John 3:2-8 He came to Jesus at night and said "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous SIGNS you are doing if God were not with him."
3In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.[a]"
4"How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"
5Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You[c] must be born again.' 8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."
In the foregoing verses, Jesus cemented Nicodemus statement that He come from God as "For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if you were not with him."
As true Christians, we have GOD with us, in fact IN us, His Spirit, by whom we get the POWER, the ABILITY TO DO GOOD WORKS. On our own, we have not the ability, but when God is IN US, (His Spirit in us, the gift He gives when we receive Jesus as our Lord, Saviour and King), we have His power to DO GOOD WORKS. To quote above.Romans 10:10"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus,TO DO GOOD WORKS which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Zech 4:6 This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, NOT by might, NOR by power, BUT BY MY SPIRIT, saith the LORD of hosts.
King Zerubbabel, though he is king, with all his kingly powers can have success without God approving of it.
On the other hand,'Good works' done without faith is 'like filthy rags in the eyes of the Lord for they are self-righteousness and are not pleasing to the Father. The righteousness pleasing to Him is the righteousness of His Son, whome He is well pleased. WE ARE SAVED BY THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF JESUS ALONE THROUGH FAITH AND NOT BY OUR GOOD WORKS.
Faith in simple terms means....obedience to the commands of the Father..like that of Jesus...obedience even unto death...even death on the Cross.
Sorry I omitted the NOT. in my comment:
King Zerubbabel, though he is king, with all his kingly powers can NOT have success without God approving of it.
